We can agree that we learn from experience. Now I know what you may think, experience is just a word, but to be more specific, as we grow older and expose ourselves to certain aspects, we go through challenges for our own good that helps us learn individually.  As for me, I’ve learned that it isn’t as easy to get the best grade on a test with procrastination, getting better at the game of basketball without socializing, and cooking a slice of pizza by myself till I noticed what mistake I’ve made. Although it may not always be through personal experience, I also take into account and learn from the actions of others on how that’s either positively or negatively impacted their life. Which is one way I learn to not perform any type of vicious acts. I will be going over 3 different ways in my life that I’ve learned such as from personal experiences on being responsible, learning from failure of a homework assignment, and of course socializing with others to learn from them.

One experience that taught me an important lesson about responsibility happened when I tried to cook a slice of pizza by myself during the pandemic. I was about 11 at the time and didn’t want to rely on people while I was home alone. I also didn’t feel the need to ask my mother since I’ve seen her cook plenty of times. Because I found making cup noodle soup easily, l figured heating up a slice of pizza shouldn’t have been as difficult either. So then I went along and set the toaster for 5 minutes, little did I know, lt had come out burnt. I was pretty upset because I didn’t know my slice would’ve overcooked itself, but at the end of the day I learned for the next time to set my slice for less than 5 minutes or ask for help the next time around. The impact this experience has had in my life with cooking is learning the key of responsibility, it taught me that I have to make sure I am always checking up on my food while it is cooking from here on out. Throughout my own life I make sure to apply this lesson of responsibility to my daily habits such as being responsible for my homework, keeping my room clean, going to bed on time, and other areas of my life. The next time around when I cooked the slice of pizza on the toaster, I managed to make sure it was cooked well and checked up on it every minute or so.

Although, that wasn’t the only experience I’ve had. Another experience that made me learn was through failure of a homework assignment I had due the next day when I got to my Junior year of high school. It was an ordinary school night that made me learn that procrastination was never the answer when it came to turning in homework and assignments. I would get so carried away once I got home from school to relax or play video games. One day I had waited till the next school day to do my homework for politics class because of how drained l was, barely even knowing what it was about since I basically rushed through the assignment. The next school day I got my grade back, coming to realize I got a C on the homework. Being usually an A and B student this wasn’t something I’d be too happy about, this for sure made me learn to be more organized with my schedule and give myself enough time to study and do homework. As for when the next homework assignment came around, I had given myself the appropriate time to read the directions carefully and work through the homework little by little. Once I got to class the next day, I had finally received an A again. From this experience, the impact overall was how I’ve learned that procrastination is never the right thing to do if you’re striving for the best grades possible.  I have improved my procrastination habits when I’m doing homework or an assignment for high school and take the time to do it a few days before it’s actually due.  I was definitely able to take this into consideration and finally felt proud of myself after learning from my mistake.

One more experience that helped me learn was through socializing with other people and getting into basketball about 2 years ago. This was around the time I learned about specific rules and moves on how to win the game. I usually played with people my skill level and would easily beat them, but when it came to playing with strangers, I would lose so easily. Then I thought to myself, I’m never going to get better playing with people my own skill level, so I decided to play with people more skilled than l am and spend more time working on my shooting, ball handles, and lay ups. Overall, this helped me learn that I can’t achieve something that easily until I am working hard for it. Soon after, I began to see Improvements In my skills and decided to join a basketball team to get acknowledged. The impact based on this experience is the way I expose myself to different aspects such as through socializing with people who know more about the game of basketball in order to improve on my own skills, because overall, in order to become better I pushed myself to learn with people who are better than I am.

All these endeavors and experiences teach me that we sometimes have to learn from our own experiences and most of the time, not everything is done easily, we all start somewhere when we want to learn a new skill. As for me, when learning how to properly heat up a slice of pizza, not procrastinating or trying to get better at the game of basketball, these experiences have also taught me the importance of patience and perseverance. Even when things feel difficult or frustrating, growth comes from continuing to try and not giving up. I didn’t give up after burning up my slice of pizza nor when I got a C for my poor habits of procrastination. Every mistake becomes a lesson that helps us improve and become stronger. As we know learning something new may take time, but the progress we make along the way is what matters.

I. Introduction – I merely learn from personal experiences that I have went through in the past which influenced the way how I repeat those mistakes in order for them to not happen again

II. I mostly learn from mistakes I’ve made and make sure to not repeat them in the same manner

    A. It was an ordinary school night once I got home, I played video games instead of focusing on what I should’ve been doing and procrastinated from doing homework the night before it was due.

        1. I did the homework a few periods before actually having to turn it in and rushed through the work, which resulted with me getting a C on the work instead of an A or B.

    B. For future occurrences, I’ve realized that I’m not going to get the grade I wish to get if I keep procrastinating and doing certain tasks at the last minute. Instead I should give myself the appropriate time to do it and do other hobbies after what needs to get done.

       1. This event changed the way I complete assignments on time and made me more responsible on top of my work.

III. When I tried and heat up a slice of pizza without any assistance from my parents

    A. It was a few years ago where I wanted to try and do something new since I already knew how to make cup noodle soup in the microwave, so I figured heating a slice shouldn’t be all that difficult either.

        1. I left the pizza in the toaster for 5 minutes which then led to it becoming burnt

    B. for the next time, I should set the pizza for less than 5 minutes and maybe ask for more assistance next time without doing things on my own.

       1. It made me learn that not everything is learned on your own and you should receive help from someone if you really do need it.

V. learning how to improve In basketball

    A. About 2 years ago I started getting into basketball and mostly played with close friends that were around my skill level since they also started

        1. I didn’t see much improvement since I played with the same people everyday and didn’t help me develop on my craft and basketball skills as a whole

    B. I started playing with others that were more skilled than me and worked on certain drills such as shooting, ball handles, and lay ups. Over time, I saw a lot of improvement in my confidence and started to be better than some people I know.

  1. It helped me learn that you won’t get anywhere when you’re in your comfort zone. The only way to improve is to expose yourself to other factors that can make you better than what you already are.

II. Conclusion – All these endeavors and experiences teach me that we sometimes have to learn from our own experiences and most of the time, not everything is done easily, we all start somewhere when we want to learn a new skill.
