Semi Weekly Reflections

TO: Crystal Rodwell

CLASS: ENGL 11000

From: Clewdin De La Cruz

Week 4: Summing up the beginning portion of how our class has been going for the past few weeks, a lot has been helpful throughout the course of writing experiences and especially my learning Analysis essay. For instance, the use of feedback I’ve got from my peers has been a very essential and crucial part for my growth especially since It can help improve my writing skills overtime. for future references, I would definitely like to continue to receive feedback based on what needs to be worked on. In regards to what’s been most confusing, learning how to put my portfolio piece together and how to properly write my essay with the use of transition words has been a bit difficult, although when the additional focus does not occur during class, I make sure to take time for myself to read the specific instructions on what each assignment is telling me to do in order to improve my overall writing.

Week 6: The learning analysis essay that I’ve been working on for the past couple weeks, I have reflected and learned alot throughout the writing process. My essay consisted of ways I learned through personal experience and perseverance. for instance, I have summed of the fact In how I learned in 3 different ways such as how to cook a slice of pizza properly after burning it the first time, how I improved on procrastination habits, and also how I’ve enhanced in the game of basketball through socialization with people that were better than me. The purpose I am trying to express to the audience is that we all learn through experiences that we go through in ways that shape how we improve from them in the future. To extent, I have received my goals of learning how to properly cook a slice of pizza, how to not procrastinate and instead give myself to study in order to receive the best grade I can get on a homework or classwork assignment, and finally being more open to socialize with more people besides just my friends to how to get better at basketball. These experiences have definitely taught me that goals are not that easy to achieve the first time around, but as you keep working hard and ask for help, you will be able to take into account on your actions and improve next time.

Week 7: An article I plan to use my research on is “The Intrinsically linked future for human and Artificial Intelligence Interaction”. This article is mainly focusing on the unique traits from both AI and human working together on collaborations to push the boundaries based on technology. Some annotations that made it possible to understand the text is that quantum, computing, big data and AI could greatly increase technological progress and human abilities. This relates to the main idea this text is talking about because humans will often be able to work with artificial intelligence through decision making support on big data such as from media, financial markets, or healthcare systems. Humans will then be able to take this into account and interpret these ideas. An example of this would be how AI can detect patterns in a patient’s data but doctors decide the best treatment option based on the patient’s needs and experiences. Overall, annotating this reading really helped me build an understanding on what affects Artificial intelligence is having on society in today’s world.

Week 8: One learning objective I’ve developed this semester is improving my ability to actively understand a certain material by asking myself questions. Instead of only reading or listening and moving on, I started passing and ask things like “Do I actually understand what this word means” or “Is this relevant to what I am trying to find?” At first, I didn’t really take the time to acknowledge what it was trying to tell me when I was reading most of the time and instead, I was just trying to memorize the information overtime, realizing that questioning myself helped me understand the text or material even further. For instance, when I study math, I begin asking myself if this formula works instead of just using it for a certain problem. This made it easier to solve unfamiliar problems with it too.

So far this semester, I’d say I grown In this area. I am More consistent about checking my own understanding while learning, not just after I got something wrong. Asking myself questions has also made me more independent because I know rely less on asking others for help and instead trying to figure things out myself first. While sometimes to this day I forget to do it, especially if I am rushing, I have improved a lot with my learning.

Week 9: For my research, I am mainly using academic articles and online sources, like journal publications on the CCNY library or websites and looking for citations on these specific sources. For example, one of my sources is an article by Anthony Miller from J Big Data, which explains how artificial intelligence and humans are becoming more connected through technology, another example is an article by Mai Nguyen from “he role of managerial risk-taking and AI-induced job insecurity”, where she further explains the consequences involving Artificial Intelligence and making it stressful for individuals to get employed as well as causing Job insecurity. These types of articles are helpful because they provide detailed and credible information written by experts, which makes my research more reliable.

These different types of media support my topic by giving both in depth explanations and real world examples of how AI is affecting our society today. Academic articles help me understand the bigger ideas behind AI, like how it develops and impacts society, whole online sources help me connect those ideas to things that people actually experiences, like recommendations on social media. This combination strengthens my writing because I am able to explain my ideas clearly while also backing it up with evidence. Finally, It also helps me stay organized and focused on the research question I am trying to answer.

Week 10: So far, I’d say the formats and the outlines given In class has been very helpful throughout my writing process because they keep me organized and give me a clear structure to follow. Instead of feeling lost or not knowing where exactly to start, I can break my writing into sections like introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. This make sit easier for me to focus on one part at a time and make sure my ideas are connected to each other with the topic I am doing. I can apply this by continuing to use outlines before I start writing almost any given assignment but mostly essays, so I can already have a plan. It also helps me stay on track with my research and make sure each paragraph supports the main idea I am trying to answer.

One thing that has been confusing or that I would like to improve on is my use of vocabulary and how I word my essays, Sometimes I feel like my writing may be too simple or repetitive, and for that exact reason I want to make it sound more advanced and clear without making it confusing. If we don’t spend more time on this in class, I can improve by reading more examples of strong writing, using my peers, and asking for feedback on my work. I can also practice rewriting sentences In different ways to see which one sounds better. Overtime, This will help me build stronger vocabulary and improve how I can express my ideas In an essay.

Week 11/12: My rhetorical situation is to get people to realize how much artificial intelligence has already changed society and how it will continue to affect our future generations. I want to show how AI has affected what we view on social media platforms on a daily basis and how it could even lead to many jobs being replaced or cause Job insecurity. To make this actually work, I need to use real evidence and examples from credible sources, explain my ideas clearly, and also talk about the other side of the argument. I should write this In a way that people younger and around my age can understand In order for them to start thinking about what consequences and positive outcomes can come with the use of AI.

Week 13: As I’ve continued my research work, my argument has evolved by getting more In depth with what the development of Artificial Intelligence has brought toward the society today, for instance, getting into the ways it affects Job Employment, how It affects the types of content people see on the media, environmental impacts that varies, and finally how it can improve emotional well being of individuals. I made sure to Include the most important points throughout my paragraphs so the reader will get more interested In my topic as they keep reading throughout My essay.

Week 14: The relationship between my MMT and my Research essay both give context based on the role AI plays on a daily basis with relevant and credible sources in order to intrigue my audience with the way AI is affecting modern day society. This includes what exactly is AI and what is the history behind its birth, the unemployment risks of people leading to acquire new skill sets, the type of content AI recommends to the audience, the environmental damage it causes with the use of too much natural resources, or even the impacts it has with mental health. The main point I’m trying to make is how much Individuals of future generations must be able to take into consideration on what skill sets they should learn and being careful on what they choose to see on the media as it can lead to misleading information.

Week 16: What I learned most that has proved to be most useful throughout my composition process was mainly the use of feedback I’ve received on my work. This very much helped me be more specific throughout every single assignment I have done throughout this semester and even Improved my use of vocabulary. I was able to find credible resources that helped support my work, and I’d say the use of outlines very much assisted me with the process of writing such as the learning analysis essay outline, the research outline, the reverse outline it pretty much served as a cheat sheet in a way when I would write my actual learning analysis essay or Research Essay. I would also say the APA formating very much helped organize the structure of my writing as a whole and it was very helpful overall.
