Self-Assessment Essay

Self-Assessment Essay

In the beginning of this semester, I didn’t expect too much from this English course. I thought it would’ve been somehow like high school taught me. Although, I was very much wrong. I’d say I’ve improved in many areas of my writing over the course of this semester. Ranging from improving my use of my vocabulary, making my writing more specific to the point I would try to get across to my audience, and of course improving my writing skills with the use of very helpful feedback from my professor. I was pretty lazy in the start but overtime, I started caring more about my performance in this course and I realized how important it was to think of the future repercussions if I didn’t turn in assigned work on time and play a crucial role in my future English college classes. With the help of professor Rodwell, I was able to meet the expected requirements for each assignment, making sure they included what was asked with essays, outlines, and artifacts I’ve written throughout the course.

Throughout this English course, it was our class’s responsibility to complete 4 major assignments. Them being The learning analysis essay, The Annotated Bibliography, the Research Informed essay, and finally the Multi-Modal Translation. The Learning Analysis Essay was mainly about me expressing ways I’ve learned and recognizing my past experiences, it allowed me to discuss and show my areas of personal growth. The annotated bibliography was mainly about an organized section of summarized articles which helped me in the process of building my research paper. The Research Informed essay was an in depth research about a topic I wanted to be more familiarized with and gain appropriate information on it with the use of credible sources that would support my research. Finally, the last assignment we did in the semester was the Multi-Modal Translation. This was a project that allowed me to form my research-informed essay into interesting visuals so my audience can find it entertaining and engaging for them to find relevant information on my topic, which was AI.

In the beginning of this course, my first assignment known as The Learning Analysis essay served as a tool that demonstrated ways of growth and development with drafting and revising after receiving feedback. A few artifacts assisted me throughout the process such as the 3 vignettes which helped me understand areas of my past and think deeper about my experiences I’ve been through on how it shaped me today as well as the Learning analysis outline. Making this outline helped me organize my thoughts clearly and made it easy to have a plan before actually structuring my writing, including developing stronger vocabulary terms to be more specific with my writing topics by clearly organizing my ideas thoroughly. Overall, the artifacts associated with my Learning Analysis essay very much supported me along the way in making sure my final draft of the learning analysis essay included all the expectations and requirements. Overall, I was able to receive a 90 for my final typed learning analysis essay and was very satisfied with the amount of work and effort I put in.

After the Learning Analysis Essay, our class began the process of finding informative research based on our topic of our liking for our Research informed essay. For my topic, I did research based on the effects Artificial Intelligence has in modern day society and how it’s likely to impact our future generations. There were many ways in which helped me along the development of my research paper. The Annotated Bibliography itself was a major source of assistance was a big portion of my research paper. It allowed me to recognize what sources were most appropriate for my research or which sources were credible with information that supported my topic of AI. After reading the texts thoroughly I practiced summarizing each of the sources and context that was given with supporting evidence, the benefits from this was being able to recall the credible evidence more efficiently. In general, Creating this annotated Bibliography helped me find appropriate sources and decide which one would be most useful for my Research Informed essay.

After the Annotated Bibliography, I basically had sort of an outline for my research Informed-essay. This essay consisted of a text that follows clear main ideas with the use of credible evidence and sources using strategies like summarizing, arguing, and explaining. The research informed essay helped improve my writing skills over time with the use of credible sources and strengthened the use of different vocabulary terms to help intrigue my audience to keep reading based on the aspects of AI. A few artifacts such as the very helpful feedback, peer reviews, and the research informed outline helped me along the way of making sure my research paper made sense. The use of the revised research outline further helped me to organize my thoughts and ideas clearly before drafting out an actual plan and heavily supporting my point on AI. After some mistakes such as shortening my words into one sentence and the use of feedback made sure I had enough evidence included In my research informed essay.

Finally, after the research Informed essay, me and my peers began working on our Multi Modal Translations. For my personal MMT, I did an interactive slideshow that incorporated relevant information kinda like how my research informed essay did but changed it into visuals and included a game of booklet at the end in which whoever placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd would get candy. With the Multi Modal translation it helped me organize my thoughts in an engaging manner for my audience to understand and feel satisfied with. Although, this wouldn’t have been much possible with the help of my Reverse outline and MMT plan artifact. Making this reverse outline helped assist me in summarizing my thoughts in an organized manner. As for my MMT plan,it helped me clearly know what to add for my MMT and what steps were necessary to have a successful presentation. In the end, I have definitely developed summarizing strategies for revising, editing, and organizing. The reverse outline helped me acknowledge where I needed to summarize my overall point I was trying to get across and the MMT plan helped allow me to organize what needed to get done on each specific day.

In conclusion, my experiences in this class helped me develop in a way where I can improve my skills as a writer and improve ways of finding credible information from sources that are actually relevant. Throughout the semester I was able to take into account how good the quality of my writing is. I was able to take a lot of criticism to help put me on the right track. The Learning Analysis essay served as a way to recognize my past experiences in ways where I later learned from. The Annotated Bibliography supported me with summarizing my sources more effectively with the use of credible sources. The Research Informed essay helped me acknowledge the impacts based on my research topic and develop strategies like summarizing, arguing, and explaining. Finally, the Multi Modal Translation helped me transform my ideas and research into interesting visuals and images in order for individuals to stay engaged with my research topic. To conclude, I very much will take what I learned from my personal experiences from this course and apply it to my future English college classes.
